Repairs & Restoration FAQ

Repair and restoration questions

What does home repair and restoration cover?+

Home repair and restoration means fixing damage and putting the house back the way it was. For us that has included ceilings and drywall, studs, insulation and trim after leaks, storm damage inside and out, and fences and gates.

Can you fix a ceiling damaged by a roof leak?+

Yes. We've repaired a ceiling damaged during a roof project, and after a roof leak in Seattle we replaced damaged studs and insulation and rebuilt the wall and window trim. The roof itself should be fixed first so the new ceiling stays dry.

Do you repair storm damage?+

Yes. After a large tree fell on a customer's roof and garage in a storm, we repaired the drywall ceilings and walls in three rooms, primed the new eave and siding wood, and painted the entire house.

Do you repair fences and gates?+

Yes. When one family's fence gate began to squeak and sag, we replaced it with a sturdier gate and new hardware. Tell us what's wrong with yours, and we'll look at whether a repair or a new gate makes more sense.

What should I do first when I find water damage?+

Stop the water at its source, then get the area looked at before the damage spreads. In the Seattle job on this page, roofing specialists traced the leak to the roof, and the damage went deeper than the ceiling: the studs and insulation were in terrible condition.

Do you take small home repair jobs?+

Yes. A single gate, a dented wall or one damaged ceiling is worth a call, and we'll let you know if anything nearby needs attention too.

Does homeowners insurance cover water damage repairs in Washington?+

Usually for sudden, accidental leaks, not gradual ones. Washington's Insurance Commissioner says policies often cover a burst supply line or frozen pipe, if you heat your home properly and report it quickly, but not slow leaks behind walls, dripping faucets or foundation seepage. Water damage from delaying storm-related roof repairs isn't covered, and mold coverage is limited.

How long does an insurance company have to respond to a home damage claim in Washington?+

Under rules effective October 18, 2026, insurers must acknowledge your claim within 10 business days and accept or deny it within 30 calendar days of notice, or explain in writing why they need more time and update you every 30 days. If they price repairs with estimating software, they must tell you the data's source and date on request.

Can I clean up mold myself after a leak in Washington, or do I need a professional?+

Small areas, yes. Washington's Department of Health says a patch under about 10 square feet, roughly 3 by 3 feet, can be cleaned yourself with goggles, gloves and breathing protection. Consider a professional for more than 10 square feet, and hire one if the mold is hidden or sewage-contaminated. Fix the leak first, and never paint or caulk over mold.

What causes wood rot on a house, and how do you keep it from coming back?+

Rot needs liquid water. The USDA Forest Products Laboratory says decay generally requires wood moisture at or above about 30 percent and temperatures of 50 to 100 F, which come from leaks, condensation or ground contact. Repairs should fix the moisture source first; if that isn't possible, replace decayed parts with preservative-treated or naturally decay-resistant heartwood.

What signs of water damage should I check for in my crawl space?+

Look for dampness, moldy smells, sagging insulation and moisture on the vapor barrier, the warning signs Washington's Insurance Commissioner lists. The USDA Forest Products Laboratory adds that crawl space condensation, mainly from soil moisture, can cause serious decay, and recommends a polyethylene barrier on the soil and 18 inches of clearance under joists for inspection.

Sí. Somos una empresa latina y bilingüe, y todo su proyecto puede hacerse en español, desde la primera llamada hasta la entrega final.
